Sales Executive

Reports to: General Manager


Based at: New World Business Centre, Station Road, Warmley, Bristol BS30 8XG


Job purpose:

To plan and carry out direct marketing and sales activities, so as to maintain and develop sales of Point of Sale material to UK companies, in accordance with agreed business plans.


Key responsibilities and accountabilities:


  1. Maintain and develop a computerised customer and prospect database.
  2. Plan and carry out direct marketing activities.
  3. Develop ideas and create offers for direct mail and marketing to major accounts by main market sector.
  4. Cold calling business and sub distributors to sell a range of Point of Sale material.
  5. Respond to and follow up sales enquiries by post, telephone, and personal visits.
  6. Setting and attending client visits across UK and overseas.
  7. Maintain and develop existing and new customers through planned individual account support, and liaison with internal order-processing staff.
  8. Tendering for contracts, maximising profits.
  9. Working to sales targets.
  10. Monitor and report on activities and provide relevant management information.
  11. Drive project through from start to completion.
  12. Carry out market research, competitor and customer surveys.
  13. Liaise and attend meetings with other company functions necessary to perform duties and aid business and organisational development.
  14. Manage the external marketing agency activities of telemarketing and research.
  15. Attend training and to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
  16. Attend to exhibition shows and networking meetings.


Person profile:

  1. Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of principles and methods for demonstrating, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
    • Knowledge of point of sale materials.
    • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
    • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Must be a very competent writer of business letters, quotations and proposals.
    • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
    • ICT skills: Must be adept in use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet and email.

  3. Experience:
    • Experience in a Sales Executive role, within a B2B environment.
    • Experience in point of sale products.
    • Experience of managing marketing agency activities.

    • Excellent face-to-face and telephone communicator. Empathic, able to see things from the other person's point of view.
    • Self-confident. Able to demonstrate success and experience managing major accounts customers and large contracts or even a business, particularly achieving genuine sales development. Mature approach, credible, and comfortable in dealing with senior big company executives.
    • Persistent in the face of obstacles.
    • Leadership - Job requires a willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.

    • Sufficiently mobile and flexible to travel up to a few days a month within the UK. Able to spend one or two nights away per month.
    • Full UK driving licence.
